About the Phoenix:
After Jean and the X-Men defeated scientist Stephen Lang and his robotic Sentinels on his space station, the heroes escaped back to Earth in a shuttle through a lethal solar radiation storm. Dying from radiation poisoning, Jean was saved by the cosmic entity known as the Phoenix Force who created a duplicate body complete with memories and personality, absorbed a portion of her consciousness and cast her into suspended animation in a strange cocoon at the bottom of Jamaica Bay.
For months the Phoenix believed itself to be the real Jean and saved the universe by healing the M’Kraan Crystal. Mental manipulation by Mastermind caused Phoenix to go insane and become Dark Phoenix. Ultimately, the portion of Jean’s consciousness within Dark Phoenix resurfaced, causing her to commit suicide.

Part one of a two print set. “I couldn’t decide if I wanted to draw a Dark Phoenix or a non-possessed Jean Grey. I thought the Dark Phoenix might be more interesting. I ended up creating the set, changing the eyes and the coloring. It’s a duality.” - Mostafa Moussa
About the Artist:
Mostafa Moussa was born November 1978 in Seymour Indiana and now resides with his family in Houston, Texas. He is an accomplished comic book artist and inker who values collaborative art projects over going alone. His most recognized work includes covers and interior work for Batman, The Flash, Superman, Fantastic Four and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Mostafa has inked for some of the industry’s most recognized artists like Chad Hardin (Harley Quinn), Alé Garza (Batgirl) and Carlo Barberi (Deadpool).
