A little backstory for the casual fan...
The Klyntar (symbiotes) are a fictional species of extraterrestrials appearing in Marvel Comics’ stories, most commonly in association with Spider-Man. The symbiotes form a bond with their hosts, creating a new sentient entity. The symbiotes have the ability to alter the personalities of their hosts by influencing their darkest desires and wants, along empowering them with super-human abilities.
The earliest and most well-known symbiote is Venom (black suit), who originally attached itself to Spider-Man during the Marvel Secret Wars storyline, was introduced as a living alien costume in The Amazing Spider-Man #252 (1984), and made a full first appearance as Venom in The Amazing Spider-Man #300 (1988). Carnage (red suit), an offspring of Venom, is another well recognized symbiote who has served as an enemy of both Spider-Man and Venom.
